NWO organises matchmaking event Building Blocks of Life
NWO has opened a call for a single proposal containing three small projects 50k Euro each within the context of each NWA route. The official call can be found here. Inald Lagendijk is invited to submit the eligible proposal. The management of the route has formulated an open and transparent process to select the three project to be included in the proposal. If you wish to submit a ‘Big Data’ proposal for a 50k Euro project plan in the context of this NWA small projects call, please follow the procedure outlined on this page. Deadline for your submission is September 18, After submission of the Initiative, the main applicant – or another participant in the consortium – has to take part in a Matchmaking Event of the indicated primary NWA-route. The New Planning Dialogue
The purpose of Matchmaking in the programme Innovation of Supervision is to bring together and connect the regulators with the various research organisations along the knowledge chain and multi- and interdisciplinary as well as with other interested parties. Here researchers and regulators are given the opportunity to share their ideas for research and to make contact with possible consortium partners.

TU Delft and the Vereniging Deltametropool have created a consortium of academic and social partners to meet the need for a new model of spatial planning that will keep the Netherlands at the forefront of practice in territorial governance. The project aims to break through the current impasse in the governance of the Dutch territory, and provide a roadmap for the transition of planning institutions towards a new model.
The project is aimed to be realized by the NWO Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research grant as well as co-financing from various partners. The NWO pre-proposal was submitted in September under the theme of resilient societies, which will be the guiding factor for undertaking the research.
A consortium of stakeholders was set up and to kick start the project, we organised the Matchmaking event, an interactive session in November Along with this, one-to-one meetings with practitioners is being carried out to draw reactions and conclusions from them to continue the ongoing discussions. Alongside with the preparation for a bigger research project, we are organising the practitioner activities starting from , rather than waiting till September for the NWO grant. Our early collaborations has already helped to shape the pre-proposal and we expect the participants to provide a more in-depth understanding of their perspectives and benefits we can gain from the domestic analysis and international comparisons.
The outcome will be an agreed set of most urgent priorities shared by stakeholders; agreement about the main tasks and data needed from key partners, agreement to take part in analysis and simulation exercises; and a wider network of contacts who will engage in dialogue and dissemination. Under this funding, a theoretically informed evaluation of the current model that considers the need for policy integration, functional territorialism, democratic legitimacy, proportionality and engagement with citizens will be carried out that will accelerate the societal change.

Matchmaking national e-science infrastructure a great success
The entire knowledge chain is represented. The added value of the consortium must arise from the joint approach to research, while the individual strengths and expertise of the participants demonstrably reinforce each other. In the call, researchers can apply on behalf of a consortium for funding for research projects that focus on existing or planned large-scale nature-based interventions and improve the resilience of the Dutch main water system rivers, large waters and the coast. A condition for submitting a research proposal is that the research takes place within the context of an existing or planned living lab. These are physical locations where researchers fundamental, applied and practically oriented , companies and government bodies work together on the interface of geosciences and ecology and the related social and economic aspects.
The meeting facilitates matchmaking between researchers from universities, colleges, national research institutes and public and private partners. Because collaboration with universities of applied sciences is a mandatory part of every application in this call, specific attention will be paid to examples in which fundamental, applied and practice-oriented research successfully complement each other.

NWO launches a new research programme on the innovation of supervision, initiated by the associations of Dutch government inspectorates and market regulators, and part of the Dutch Research Agenda NWA. A matchmaking meeting will take place on 24 March for all interested researchers and professionals in the field of regulation and enforcement. This NWA research programme on innovation of supervision focuses on fundamental and cross-domain questions about the future of regulation and enforcement: questions that are inherent to the profession of supervision in a changing society.

These five teams will organise activities like workshops and exchanges with researchers and stakeholders from Brazil, China, Indonesia, India, Russia, South Africa or Turkey.
